The Royal Palace of Abomey (Benin), World Heritage Site, burnt caught fire again on the eve of Monday, 28th August. The affected area was the handcraft village which was the community business centre of the palace which generated income for local communities. The recurrent fire raises once again the urgency to put in place effective risk management mechanisms at heritage sites.

The AWHF will keep supporting the Government of Benin in their effort to protect the fragile cultural heritage of Abomey.
